As part of my Master of Laws degree at the University of Sydney, my major thesis was on the role of the company secretary.

My wife, Isobel and I jointly published  my thesis which is entitled "The Rights, Obligations and Duties of Secretaries of Companies Under the General Law and the Companies (New South Wales) Code". I was a State Councillor for the Australian Institute of Company Secretaries. I lectured on the role of the company secretary for the Institute. As a a result, I decided to write a more definitive book on the role of the company secretary which become the standard text for the Institute. I co-wrote the book with Geoff Garside and it was published by Prentice Hall.
